| SunRise® Solar Submersible Pump Lifts 600 Feet (200m) |
| Where there are no power lines, solar pumps offer a clean alternative to fuel-burning engines, generators and windmills. Solar pumps began to prove themselves in 1980, as soon as photovoltaic (PV) technology entered the market. Now we know that it does not take long for a solar pump to pay off in terms of fuel and maintenance savings. SunRise is a new solar-electric submersible pump for deep wells and long pipelines. Powered directly by a PV array of 300 watts, SunRise will lift 4 GPM from 150 Feet, 2.5 GPM from 250 Feet, or 1 GPM from 600 Feet (15 lpm from 50m, 10 lpm from 75m, or 3.5 lpm from 200m). SunRise is a DC-powered sealed-piston pump, designed for high lift at low flow rates. Until now, this range of solar pumping could only be performed efficiently by rod-driven jack pumps, which are extremely bulky and expensive. SunRise fills that gap. It can be installed by hand or by machine, at a retail material cost averaging around $5000 for a complete system. "The small new generation [SunRise] pumps are efficient units which are now produced industrially to international standards. ... [The pump demonstrates] improved hydraulic energy cost compared to conventional [centrifugal submersible] solar pumping systems. ... [SunRise] pumps offer an economically attractive solution to the end user." --- Comparative Evaluation of SunRise® and Grundfos® Systems by Centre for Renewable Energy Sources (Athens, Greece) for European Union's AVICENNE research program on small solar pumps, June 1997 "We've been running our SunRise model 5226 pump for a year now. It supplies four families, 20 to 30 trees and some animals. It's a good deal and I thank you." --- RF, Nevada City, CA "I'm really pleased with how easy [the SunRise pump] was to install. I was surprised. I have no background in this." --- P.P. San Antonio, Texas USA "Yours is the finest instruction manual that I have ever had the pleasure of using, and I am a heating, ventilating and air conditioning technician. Your staff is wonderful to work with." --- JH, Pecos, NM "You produce the best documentation of anyone in the PV industry." --- Robert Soldat, Superior Energy, Moab, Utah |
| SunRise Advantages
SunRise represents a breakthrough in deep well solar pumping. Its patented sealed piston mechanism uses less than 300 watts of power (1/3 HP). Most solar pumps use centrifugal impellers, requiring much more power. SunRise requires a smaller, less costly solar array. |
DESIGNING A SYSTEM (1) From the chart above, select the pump model that best fits your lift and flow requirements. (2) Determine the size of the photovoltaic (PV) array. For full rated performance of a non-battery system, an array of four modules (48 volts nominal) is required. The total rated power of the array must exceed the watts indicated on the chart, by 15% or more. Less array watts will cause a proportional reduction in flow. Further oversizing will increase water flow during low-sun conditions. (3) Determine the desired capacity of storage tank -- generally 5 to 10 days of water demand. VARIATIONS
SUBMERGENCE below static water level: 20-40 Feet (6-12m) recommended, unless well yield is low. Maximum recommended: 150 Ft (50m) except under conditions of extremely variable water levels. POWER CABLE: 2-wire submersible pump cable is required. It must be connected to the pump's leader cable by a waterproof splice. The cable length (power source to pump) must not exceed the maximum length shown below. Undersized wire may prevent pump from starting, and will void the warranty.
